What the set offers

A set of photo-etched parts for the model of the German Pz.III Ausf.L medium tank in 1:48 scale, cut for the Tamiya kit. The etched sheet is thin and carries fine detail, so it suits the fenders and their brackets, grilles, eyes, clasps and tool clamps. In injection-molded plastic these parts are always thicker than the scale would call for, and once they are replaced the look of the vehicle visibly settles down. Exactly what the fret holds is given in the manufacturer's instructions.

The real subject

The Panzer III was a German medium tank of the Second World War and one of the main types of the first years of the war. The Ausf.L version is among the later variants, with reinforced frontal armor.

Building and painting tips

• Separate the part with a sharp blade on a hard surface and dress the remains of the holding tab with a file.
• Run the bends along the scored line, over a straight edge or in a bender, in one movement.
• It is bonded with super glue or by soldering; polystyrene cement does not hold on metal.
• First cut away the plastic part that the photo-etch replaces and level the surface.
• Degrease the sheet before painting and give it a primer coat.

Who it is for

For the modeler who builds vehicles in 1:48 scale and wants the vehicle to stand up to a close look. The fenders can moreover be carefully bent or torn after gluing, which gives the vehicle the look of a machine from the field, something a plastic part cannot do.
