An injection-molded plastic kit of the American Republic P-47D Thunderbolt fighter in the late version with a bubble canopy (Bubbletop) in 1:48 scale from Tamiya. The kit stands out for its accurate fit and fine detail, as is usual with this brand. The box contains clear parts for the bubble canopy and a selection of external stores. Check the exact package contents and the number of marking options against the manufacturer's part number for this item.
The P-47 Thunderbolt was among the heaviest and most rugged single-engine fighters of the Second World War. It was powered by the huge Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial engine and became famous for its toughness and its large combat load. Late P-47D versions received a bubble canopy, which greatly improved the pilot's view to the rear compared with the earlier machines with a raised rear fuselage decking. The Thunderbolt proved itself as an escort fighter and as a feared fighter-bomber in attacks on ground targets.
Cut the parts from the sprues and glue them with liquid modeling cement for plastic. Paint and highlight the cockpit before you close the fuselage, and mask the clear bubble canopy during spraying. Pay attention to a clean fit of the big engine and its cowling. Apply a primer and the paints with an airbrush, apply the decals over a gloss coat and bring out the panel lines with a wash. Finish with the bombs, rockets and drop tanks.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
