Big Ed 1:48 Savoia-Marchetti SM.79 is a bundle of photo-etched accessory sets from Eduard for a model of the Italian three-engined bomber.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not an aircraft kit but a pack of accessories for a model. Big Ed is the range under which Eduard brings several separate photo-etched sets intended for one particular model together and sells them as a single item instead of one at a time. The sets are in 1:48 scale and are aimed at the Italian Savoia-Marchetti SM.79 bomber.
Photo-etched sets for aircraft usually deal with the cockpit interior, the instrument panels, the seat belts, the grilles, the radiators, the control surfaces and other elements that are too coarse in plastic. On multi-seat machines the bundle often takes in the inside of the fuselage and the gun positions as well. The specific make-up differs from bundle to bundle, so follow the instructions in the box before you start building.
Separate the parts with a scalpel on a firm surface rather than with pliers, and make the bends in a bending tool. Degrease the metal before gluing. Use cyanoacrylate or a glue intended for metal; plastic cement is no help here. Thin the plastic down in advance where a photo-etched part is to go, so that it does not stand above the surface once glued. A unifying coat of filler primer before painting will make sure that the metal and the plastic take the paint in the same way.
The subject is the Savoia-Marchetti SM.79, an Italian three-engined aircraft of mixed wood and metal construction with a characteristic dorsal hump. It made its name above all as a torpedo bomber in the Mediterranean.
