This set of photo-etched metal parts serves to detail the plastic model of the German eight-wheeled Sd.Kfz.234/2 Puma armored car in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit of the vehicle - the set completes a specific Italeri kit and without it you cannot use it. Why photo-etch at all? Injection-molded plastic cannot produce a genuinely thin wall, so the fenders, covers, eyes, loops and meshed areas come out more robust on a model than they were in reality. A metal sheet a few tenths of a millimeter thick replaces them in a way that is faithful to the scale.
The Sd.Kfz.234/2 Puma was the heaviest of the German eight-wheeled reconnaissance cars of the Second World War. Unlike the other members of the 234 series it carried an enclosed rotating turret with a 50 mm gun, thanks to which it managed not only reconnaissance but also fighting lightly armored targets. The vehicle had all-wheel drive and an air-cooled diesel engine and was steered from both ends of the hull, so it could reverse at full speed. It was committed mainly with reconnaissance detachments in Western Europe and in Italy.
Work on a light surface and over a closed box; small parts like to disappear. Separate them from the fret with a scalpel, never by breaking them out. Level the fret tab remnant with a fine-toothed file. Run the bends along the etched line and bend long rims along their whole length at once. Stiff material softens after brief annealing over a flame. Glue with super glue in a minimal amount; any excess turns white once dry and is visible on a model. Before painting, degrease the sheet and spray a primer, and only then does the covering paint go on.
This is an accessory set, not a model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
