A set of photo-etched pilot's seatbelts for a model of the Hawker Sea Fury FB.11 in 1:48 scale from the Czech maker Eduard. It belongs to the STEEL line, so the belts are made of steel and are already pre-painted — you do not have to paint them, you simply remove them from the fret, shape them and glue them in. Steel has a decisive advantage over softer brass: it holds its shape better. A belt can be draped realistically over the edge of the seat, folded or twisted and it will actually stay in that position, so the interior looks alive rather than like a flat piece of tin. The set is intended for the Sea Fury FB.11 kit in 1:48 from Airfix. It is not an aircraft model — the kit itself is not included in the package.
The Hawker Sea Fury was a British carrier fighter and fighter-bomber with a powerful radial engine and is among the fastest production propeller aircraft ever built. It arrived at the very end of the piston fighter era, but its career was still ahead of it: the FB.11 version made a strong mark in the Korean War, where it operated from carrier decks in the attack role. It was in Korea too that the Sea Fury achieved something not expected of a propeller aircraft — a kill against a jet MiG-15. The cockpit of such a machine deserves more than plastic belts suggested by engraving alone.
For modelers who build the Sea Fury in 1:48 and want a quick and striking improvement to the cockpit without a complete photo-etched interior set. Working with photo-etch calls for tweezers, a sharp knife and patience, but pre-painted belts are the easiest way to get started with photo-etch.
