The set of glazing masks Sea Hurricane Mk.I in 1:48 scale from Dead Design. The ready-made parts take the place of the lengthy tracing of narrow frames with a scalpel in masking tape.
Responsibility details are not available.
A masking set for the glazing of the cabin, not a kit. The parts are stuck onto the clear molding and leave only the frames uncovered, to get the color of the airframe.
The Sea Hurricane is the naval version of the fighter Hawker Hurricane, adapted for naval operation. It came into being out of the need to provide fighter protection for convoys, and its machines were used in the catapult form as well as, later, in carrier-borne service. In its design it comes from the Hurricane Mk.I, that is, from an aircraft with a welded tube frame fuselage structure and with a cabin whose canopy slides backward.
The frame of the Hurricane is not one smooth area. The sliding canopy has several separate panes divided by narrow bars, to which the frame of the windshield and the rear glazing belong. Anyone who masks by hand sticks tape over the whole glazing and traces the frames with a scalpel, having to press exactly right in doing so: press harder and you cut into the clear plastic and the mark stays there, press more weakly and the cut does not go through and the tape tears while being peeled off. With bars that narrow a mistake of a tenth of a millimeter is noticed immediately, moreover, because the frame comes out unevenly wide and the eye catches it at once on a small part. A ready-made mask leaves this step out entirely; the parts are cut according to the shape of the frame and are only assembled in place. With an intricate frame of the kind the Hurricane has, the time saved shows the most.
