Quinta Studio makes cockpit details differently from most of the aftermarket: the elements are printed in relief and already colored, but they sit on a decal carrier paper. They are therefore applied like a decal: dipped, slid off the backing and seated on the part, and yet what stays on the model is not a flat print but a raised panel with controls, levers and three-dimensional instruments. That removes the painting of the smallest details, which with photo-etched sets is the most demanding part of the work. This item is meant for the two-seat Su-25UB version in 1:32 scale. The set is meant for the Trumpeter kit.
In 1:32 scale the cockpit really is visible once the model is finished, and a two-seat version has twice the space. The instrument panels, the side consoles and the cockpit walls make up most of what a viewer judges with the canopy open. The set deals with exactly that area: the coloring and the articulation come from the factory, and the modeler concentrates on seating the parts and evening them out with varnish.
Paint the base first in a dark cockpit shade and let it cure; the 3D parts are not fully opaque and light plastic would show through them. Cut the elements out with a small margin, dip them in lukewarm water for only a few seconds and let them rest on a paper towel until they come free. Seat them on a damp surface and tap them down with a soft brush, not with a finger. Do not use a decal softener or a setting solution on the raised elements at all, not even thinned; they attack the printed resin and blur the relief. Water and patience are enough. Once it is dry, go over the whole interior with matte varnish, so that the sheen of the backing matches the rest of the cockpit, and add a light dark wash in the corners if you like.
This is an accessory for painting and detailing, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
