This is NOT an aircraft model but a set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks from New Ware in 1:48 scale. The masks are cut from kabuki tape, Japanese washi paper with an adhesive layer, and they serve for accurate masking while painting a plastic kit of the MiG-23MLD Flogger-K fighter. The parts are cut in advance to fit one specific model, so cutting the frames out by knife falls away.
The MiG-23MLD, NATO reporting name Flogger-K, was the most advanced fighter version of the MiG-23 family with its variable-geometry wing. It received improved avionics, reworked controls for safer maneuvering at high angles of attack and the distinctive notches on the leading edge of the wing roots, which improved the airflow. It also carried modern short-range air-to-air missiles.
The EXPERT level is among the most complete variants. Besides masking the glazed canopy on the outside it usually also holds masks for the inner face of the glazing, colored frame borders imitating the sealant, masks for the position and landing lights and masks for the wheel rims. It therefore lets you mask the canopy from both sides and with a different frame color. The masks are stuck onto the clear parts so that they follow the curvature, and after airbrushing they come away gently with no adhesive residue.
An add-on painting mask set, not a standalone model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
