In an open cockpit the seat belts are the first thing the eye notices on a finished model. Plastic belts from a kit tend to be thick, flat and stuck to the seat, so they look like suggested relief rather than straps. Photo-etched belts have a thickness that matches the scale, they can be folded over the edge of the seat and left to hang freely down its sides, exactly as a belt hangs in an empty cockpit.
Seat belts for models of American carrier-based fighters of the Second World War in 1:48 scale. The material is steel: steel is more malleable than brass and holds its shape once bent, so the belt can be worked into a natural sag and does not spring back. The extent of the set, the color finish of the parts and the kits the set is intended for are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface; pliers bend the edge. Shape them with flat-jawed tweezers in small steps, so the belt takes a smooth curve with no sharp kinks. Bend the buckles over a straight edge. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue in a tiny quantity, transferred on the tip of a wire; an extra drop would flood the fine relief of the buckles. Settle the belts into the seat before you close up the fuselage.
The kit, paints and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
