Masks for the glazing and the national insignia of a model of the Spitfire Mk IIb in 1:48 scale. The cockpit frames are masked from the outside, and a supplementary decal sheet is in the envelope as well.
Responsibility details are not available.
The second production version of the Supermarine Spitfire received the Merlin XII engine and a starter that let it be turned over away from its home base as well. The letter b in the designation refers to the wing with two 20 mm Hispano cannons and four machine guns of 7.7 mm caliber. Most of the machines were built in the new plant at Castle Bromwich and reached the units at the moment when the daylight battle over England was turning into night raids.
A roundel made through a mask is part of the paint layer. It has no thickness of its own, so shading, dusting and fading pass over it as smoothly as over the surrounding surface. The shade is also under your control: a faded blue or a muted red can be mixed, of a kind no ready-made sheet offers.
First degrease the glazing. Press the masks into the corners of the frames with a toothpick and run over the edge once more so that the paint does not bleed under it. Apply thinly and rather in two passes. Lift the mask off before the paint has fully cured, otherwise it will take the edge of the coat with it. The cut corresponds to the shapes of the kit from Tamiya in this scale. Do not throw the offcuts of film away; they will serve on the main landing gear wheels.
