An etched accessory sheet in 1:48 scale for a model of the Spitfire Mk.I. An accessory for a kit, not a stand-alone model.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Spitfire Mk.I is the first production version of the British fighter, the one with which the Royal Air Force went into the fighting at the beginning of the Second World War. It is a slender all-metal monoplane with the characteristic elliptical wing that gives it an unmistakable silhouette to this day. Of the whole family the Mk.I version is the most restrained and the cleanest, which makes it a rewarding subject, because on a model the shape stands out and later additions do not distract from it.
This is a photo-etched sheet, that is a thin metal sheet with the parts etched into it. Etched metal is used where a plastic part would come out too thick, typically on thin sheet metal, grilles, belts and small levers. Which features the sheet contains and which kit it is drawn for is stated in the enclosed instructions from the manufacturer. The difference from a part out of the kit shows most where sheet metal should be almost without thickness and still hold its shape.
The parts are held in the sheet by thin tabs. Separate them with a sharp blade on a hard surface, not by tearing, or the feature will be deformed. Make the bends in a bending tool or between two blades so that the edge stays sharp. Metal is glued with super glue; solvent cement for plastic has no effect on it. Before painting, wash and degrease the sheet and use a primer, or the paint will not hold on smooth metal.
The etched sheet is supplied on its own. A kit, paints and glue are not included unless stated otherwise.
