This Star Decals sheet serves to mark a finished model of an assault gun; on its own it is not a kit. It focuses on the StuG III Ausf B version in the period from 1941 to 1942 and names four units in particular: StuG.Abt. 185, StuG.Abt. 191, StuG.Abt. 192 and StuG.Abt. 201.
The Sturmgeschütz III Ausf B was built on the PzKpfw III chassis and carried the short 75 mm StuK 37 gun in a fixed superstructure with no rotating turret. Against the first batch, the B version received wider tracks and a different transmission. Assault guns came under the artillery and were organized into battalions of several batteries; each such battalion kept an emblem of its own, which was painted on the superstructure or on a fender. It is exactly these battalion emblems, together with tactical numbers, that form the core of the sheet. In 1941 and 1942 improvised air recognition markings were added to the vehicles as well, because the units advanced fast and in dusty country.
Before applying it, coat the spot with a gloss layer; on a matte surface the edge of the film would stand out. Dip the motif in lukewarm water, after a moment slide it off the paper straight onto the model and adjust the position with a damp brush. Blot the remaining water off and let it dry thoroughly; only then come the patina and the matte varnish.
