The Su-27 is a Soviet heavy twin-engined fighter aircraft meant for winning air superiority over a large area. You will know it by the blended fuselage, which passes smoothly into the wing, by the pair of vertical tail surfaces and by the two turbofans housed in nacelles set far apart. The UB version is a two-seat combat-capable trainer: the pupil and the instructor sit one behind the other, the rear seat is raised for the sake of the view forward, and the machine keeps its combat capability all the same. Thanks to its size and its shapes, the Su-27 is among the most rewarding subjects of all jet aircraft.

The two-seat cockpit is very much on show under the large canopy, so finish and paint it before you join the halves of the fuselage. Dry-fit the seats and the instrument panels, so that they do not get in the way of closing once painted. Glue the wing and the tail surfaces on a flat surface and keep checking the symmetry; on a model of this size every control surface set crooked tells. Glue the canopy with a cement intended for clear parts, and mask the frames rather than brushing them. The blue-gray coloring of the real machine has soft transitions, so spray from close up and at a low pressure.
For modelers of jet aircraft who build in 1:48 scale and want a conspicuous large machine in a display case. The two-seat cockpit gives room for careful work on details, but the finished model takes up more space than an ordinary single-engined fighter.
