1:48 Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I (outside and inside masks) is a self-adhesive Montex masking set for the glazing frames. It is not a kit, but an accessory for a 1:48 model.
Responsibility details are not available.
Die-cut self-adhesive masks for the transparent parts of a model of the earliest production version of the Spitfire. According to the name, the set holds masks for the outside and the inside of the frames. The templates follow the shape of the canopy and of the fixed sections of the glazing, so the frames come out equally wide all the way round.
The Spitfire Mk.I was the first production version of the British single-seat fighter, with a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine and an elliptical wing. It entered regular service at the end of the 1930s, and in 1940 and 1941 it formed, together with the Hurricane, the backbone of British fighter defense. Early machines changed gradually in the course of production, among other things in the propeller, the armament and the shape of the cockpit canopy.
The canopy of the Spitfire is bulged in two directions, which is the most demanding thing about masking it. So do not lay the mask down all at once: set one edge against the part, press it down gradually along the curve and let the film adapt to the shape. Smooth out slight rippling with a rounded toothpick. If the mask will not seat at the top of the curve, take it off and lay it on again rather than stretch it by force. Before painting, check the whole perimeter once more against the light; a lifted edge gives itself away at once.
The package holds masking templates only. The model, paints and other accessories are not part of it.
