A resin conversion set in 1:48 scale intended for converting a plastic model of the twin-boom American Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter into its unarmed photo-reconnaissance version. The Lockheed P-38 Lightning is an unmistakable twin-boom aircraft with a central nacelle for the pilot and two V12 engines with turbochargers. Besides fighter duties it proved itself as a photographic reconnaissance platform: in the nose of the nacelle a battery of cameras took the place of the armament, and its speed and range suited the machine to photography over long distances. It is precisely this group of modifications that the F-4 designation covers, with a further suffix for the production batch. Reconnaissance Lightnings flew unarmed and their characteristic feature is the camera windows in the nose.
First wash the resin parts in lukewarm soapy water to remove the mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc, sand wet and with respiratory protection, because resin dust is fine. They are bonded exclusively with super glue; plastic cement has no effect on resin. Test dry several times before joining them to the plastic and refine the cuts in small steps, as on a conversion every inaccuracy shows up in the outline. Fill and sand the transitions between resin and plastic, then spray the whole joint with primer, which also evens out the absorbency of the two materials. Leave the camera windows until the end and mask them.
The set is an accessory for a plastic kit. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; the kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
