1:48 Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I cockpit is an Eduard resin cockpit detail set — a replacement for the plastic interior of the model, not an aircraft kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
While photo-etched sets add flat parts to a cockpit and the sets of the Look line solve only the instrument panel, this item belongs to the most demanding category of accessories: it is a cockpit cast in resin, intended to replace the interior from the box. The contents replace the plastic parts with a casting of richer relief that carries detail unattainable with a split injection mold. It is not an airplane model but a substantial intervention in the build of a model in 1:48 scale.
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I was the first production version of the British fighter with the elliptical wing, powered by the Rolls-Royce Merlin V12. The cockpit was narrow and its internal structure stays clearly visible on a model with the canopy slid back, which makes the interior one of the most closely watched places on the whole model.
Count on having to modify the plastic parts — as a rule the walls of the fuselage are thinned down and the original floor and bulkheads are cut away. Proceed slowly and keep dry-fitting, because material can always be removed and never added. Wash the mold release agent off the castings, cut off the casting blocks and sand the surfaces wet, with respiratory protection. They are bonded with super glue or epoxy. Paint the cockpit and add the pigments before the fuselage is closed.
This is an accessory to a build, not a standalone model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
