This set from the Czech maker Hauler holds scaled-down versions of American personal equipment, that is, bags and rucksacks, in 1:48 scale. It is not a model or a kit but small fittings meant for completing finished vehicles, figures and dioramas.
A vehicle in the field never looked as if it had come off the production line. The crews tied their own bags, blankets, shelter halves and rucksacks to the hulls and the fenders, and it is exactly this clutter that sets a model apart from a dry display of shapes. A stowed load also helps to hide less successful places, breaks up large empty areas and gives a model both scale and direction. In 1:48 scale, where a model is small, a few well-placed pieces are enough for a vehicle to look lived in.
Wash the parts in warm water with detergent and let them dry. Cut the casting blocks off with a sharp scalpel or a fine saw. Before you start gluing, lay the load out dry and look for places where a crew would really have put it, that is, at the edges of the hull, by the hatches, on the fenders and by the stowage baskets. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Painting is more convenient before gluing: a base coat, a wash into the folds and a dry brush on the edges will give the fabric depth. Different shades on individual pieces look more credible than a uniform coat.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. The model, figures, glue and paints are not included in the package.
