Injection-molded plastic kit of the American carrier-borne dive bomber Douglas SBD-2 Dauntless in 1:48 scale from Academy, in the edition marking the Battle of Midway. The box contains photo-etched parts, masking film, bomb armament and a detailed cockpit.
The Douglas SBD Dauntless was the key American dive bomber of the Pacific. Its most famous hour came in 1942 at the Battle of Midway, where SBDs sank four Japanese aircraft carriers and turned the course of the war in the Pacific. The SBD-2 version served with the Navy as well as with the Marine Corps, which operated from the Midway islands. The Dauntless was known for the accuracy of its diving attack and at the same time for a toughness that let crews survive heavy fighting.
Use liquid cement for plastic and finish the detailed cockpit before closing up the fuselage. Cover the glazing with the enclosed mask, apply a primer and spray thin coats with an airbrush. Carrier aircraft are rewarding subjects for washes and pigments, which bring out the wear and the salt weathering. The perforated dive brakes of the wings are a conspicuous detail, so give them care when cleaning up.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
