1:48 Vought V-156-B1 Chesapeake Royal Navy is a plastic kit of the British version of the American Vought Vindicator carrier-based dive bomber from Academy.
Responsibility details are not available.
This injection-molded plastic kit captures the export version of the American Vought Vindicator carrier-based dive bomber, which the Fleet Air Arm operated under the name Chesapeake. The kit is made by the South Korean firm Academy.
The Vought SB2U Vindicator was one of the first monoplane dive bombers of the US Navy and served aboard aircraft carriers in the late 1930s. Britain ordered the export version V-156-B1, named Chesapeake in the Fleet Air Arm. The machines arrived in 1941; for the intended anti-submarine patrols from small escort ships, however, they proved insufficiently capable, and so they served mainly for training and auxiliary duties. The model thus offers an interesting link between an American design and the Fleet Air Arm.
Start with the cockpit - the glazing of the Vindicator is extensive and the inside will be visible. The interior comes out well with a wash and a dry brush. Glue the fuselage to the wings while checking the fit, and fill the joints if needed. British naval camouflage is best sprayed with an airbrush with soft transitions; apply gloss varnish before the decals so that no silvering occurs.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
