This is not a kit but an accessory for one. The set holds three-dimensional decals, that is colored elements with printed relief on a backing decal paper. After a short soak they slide off the paper straight onto the cockpit parts of a plastic model of the Soviet Yak-1B fighter in its late production form, 1:48 scale. The base skill variant is the basic level of the line.
The elements have no adhesive layer of their own, and that governs the whole procedure. Cut the part out of the sheet, leave it in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and then slide it off the paper into place. It holds reliably on a gloss coat, so polish the surface under the decal beforehand with a product of the Future, Klear or Tamiya X-22 type; on an intricate wall a drop of super glue helps. While there is still water under the element the position can be corrected, but not once it has dried. And because the elements are colored from the factory, you do not have to paint them at all - that is the fundamental difference from photo-etched parts, which without a primer and a coat of paint look like bare metal.
The ideal surface is smooth, degreased, sprayed with the base color of the cockpit and polished with a gloss coat. Level the molded detail under the decal, otherwise air pockets will form. Cut the elements out with a sharp scalpel close to the outline and handle them with blunt-jawed tweezers. After sliding them into place press them down with a soft wooden stick, blot the excess water away and hold them for a moment. Do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer, as the chemicals attack the printed resin. It is better not to spray strong solvent-based varnishes over the print.
