1:48 Yokosuka D4Y1/D4Y2/D4Y3/D4Y4 Suisei Control Surfaces is a Dead Design masking set for spraying the texture of the control surfaces of a Suisei model in 1:48 scale.

One sheet of pre-cut masks for several versions of the D4Y carrier dive bomber, the ones listed in the name. The masks are not intended for the glazing but for the moving surfaces, that is, the rudder, the ailerons and the elevator. A different shade is sprayed over them and the impression of ribs and fabric covering appears on the surface. The list of the sheet is given on the packaging.
The D4Y versions differ above all in powerplant and equipment, while the shape of the tail surfaces and the ailerons stays essentially the same. That is why one sheet can cover the whole family. Before you apply a mask, lay it on the part dry and check that the shape matches your own kit. If the edge differs a little, it is better to move the mask than to bend it over the edge of the part.
Lay the base shade over the whole area and let it cure. Then come the masks and over them a very thin shading pass. If you are planning decals, lay the gloss coat under them only after the masks have been lifted, so that no step forms under a mask. A final matte or satin clear coat blends the whole effect and seals it at the same time. On the dark green finishes commonly used with this technique, a lightened shading shade works better than a darkened one.
The set is an accessory for painting a model. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
