This item is not a model of an aircraft but an accessory set for improving one. The parts are made by three-dimensional printing, that is by a technology that allows considerably finer and busier detail than injection molding. The set is intended to replace the cockpit on a separately purchased plastic kit in 1:48 scale. The manufacturer is Eduard, a Czech company from Obrnice near Most.

The real subject

The Zlin Z-126 Trener belongs to the family of Czechoslovak training and sport aircraft of the Trener series. It was a two-seat monoplane with a low-wing layout and an inline piston engine, which served for training and for aerobatics and spread to a number of countries. The cabin of the aircraft is very readily open to view, which when building a model means that the interior tells more than on machines with little glazing. That is precisely why it pays to reach for a worked-out cockpit accessory on this type.

Building tips

Carefully separate the printed parts from their supports and sand the cut faces with fine sandpaper. Do the sanding with respiratory protection and ideally wet, so that no dust is raised. Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water before painting and let them dry thoroughly. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Try the cabin dry before closing up the fuselage; with replacement interiors the plastic usually has to be thinned locally from the inside. It is sensible to finish and weather the interior before the fuselage is glued together.
