An injection-molded plastic model of the Messerschmitt Me 262 HG III in the design form Entwurf III, in 1:48 scale from Amusing Hobby. It is a project machine that was never built. It differs from the sister version with the butterfly tail in its layout: in the Entwurf III design the cockpit was moved right to the back and set into the leading edge of the vertical tail surface, combined with a swept wing. Besides the plastic, the package contains a photo-etched fret, clear parts and decals. The exact number of parts is not stated here until it has been verified.
The studies of the Me 262 HG series (Hochgeschwindigkeit, high speed) looked for ways to greater speed through greater wing sweep and further aerodynamic reworking. The Entwurf III design is among the most radical variants — moving the cockpit into the root of the vertical tail surface was meant to free up the fuselage and improve the aerodynamics. It should be taken factually as a project that stayed on the drawing board and never flew in reality. Concepts like this influenced the post-war development of jet aircraft.
The lower part count makes the build easier. Glue the plastic parts with a liquid modeling cement for plastic, and the photo-etched parts with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Glue the canopy glazing on only after the frames have been varnished and protect it with masking tape. Apply a base (primer) before painting, spray the late-war German schemes (shades of the RLM range) with an airbrush in thin coats and sketch out the soft transitions in advance.
