A kit of the hybrid battleship Hyuga, the 1944 configuration, 1:700 scale, maker Fujimi. An unusual combination of gunnery and a flight deck.
Responsibility details are not available.
Fujimi has rendered the Hyuga in the configuration from the autumn operation of the Japanese fleet in 1944. It is one of the strangest shapes that appeared on the water in the Second World War, and in 1:700 scale it stands out well even in the company of ordinary battleships. The particular composition of the package is described by the manufacturer alone.
The Hyuga belonged to the Ise class and was originally a conventional gunnery ship. After the losses of the Japanese carriers the navy tried to make up for the missing carrier aviation by conversion: the rear of the vessel lost two gun turrets and in their place a short deck with a hangar and catapults was built. The combination did not prove itself in practice, because trained aircrew were in short supply and the vessel ended up playing the part of a decoy drawing attention away from the main force. In that role she took part in the fighting off the Philippine islands in the autumn of 1944.
The transition between the conventional stern and the landing area is the most exposed place on the whole model, so give it extra care when filling. Set the different surfaces, that is steel, wood and the concrete area, off in slightly different tones, otherwise the model will merge into uniform gray. Glue the catapults at the stern only after painting.
This is an unassembled model with no finish applied. Glue and paints are not enclosed, unless stated otherwise.
