Wood is hard to paint on a model: the pattern of the growth rings should have a fine, irregular and at the same time continuous run, which takes a long time to imitate with a brush and is seldom even on two surfaces side by side. A printed sheet shortens that work to cutting out and applying. It comes into its own on wooden propellers, on the covered and the visible parts of older aircraft, on the decks and planking of ships, on the beds of vehicles and on crates and other small things in a diorama. The sheet is listed for 1:48, 1:32 and 1:35 scales.
This is a waterslide decal. Cut out the piece you need with scissors or a sharp blade with a small overlap, dip it briefly in lukewarm water and let it rest until it starts to move on the paper. Then slide it off the paper directly onto the surface, work it into place and blot the excess water away with a soft cloth from the center toward the edges. On a contoured surface a setting solution helps the decal to press down without creases. Paint the base beforehand in a wood shade and leave it glossy; decals hold worse on a matte surface and a haze appears at the edges.
Once it is dry, coat the surface with clear so that the edges of the decal disappear and the pattern blends with its surroundings. Choose the sheen of the clear coat according to how the wood is meant to look.
