A sheet of decals in 1:48 scale devoted to captured Republic P-47 Thunderbolt machines in German service. Intended for plastic kits of this aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was an American single-seat fighter of the Second World War and was among the heaviest and most rugged machines of its category. It proved itself as an escort for bombers and in attacks on ground targets. Several machines fell into German hands and were tested in colors and with markings that no one would expect on a Thunderbolt. It is to such machines that this set is devoted.
A sheet of decals in 1:48 scale focused on the P-47 in German hands. How many marking options the sheet offers, which particular machines they belong to and where the individual elements are placed is described in the manufacturer's instructions supplied with it. The set is an accessory for a plastic kit; the model itself is not part of it.
The base must be smooth and glossy, as on a matte coat a white veil will appear under the decal. Cut the element out as close to the printing as possible, dip it for a few seconds in lukewarm water and let it rest until it begins to move on the backing. Then transfer it into place, press the water out with a soft cloth and only at the end apply a softener, so that the decal is drawn into the engraved lines. After drying, go over the area with a matte varnish, so that the edge of the film disappears.
The set suits a modeler who is drawn to less usual chapters of history and wants a well known American aircraft in a foreign coat on the shelf. The markings are conspicuous, so it pays to do careful work on the base coat. Unless stated otherwise, the kit, paints, glue and softener are not included.
