A large-format printed sheet 225 x 225 mm showing the surface of Da Nang air base as it was in the years 1970 to 1971. It serves as a base under models in 1:144 scale. It is neither a kit nor a decal.
A dating of two years is one of the narrowest issued for airfield bases, and that is no accident. Bases with intensive traffic changed their appearance fast: paved areas were added, parking stands were moved, markings were redrawn. A narrow window therefore means that the motif matches one particular operational state of the airfield, not its average over a decade. For a build that is an advantage, because you need only choose a machine with markings of the same period and the scene holds together of its own accord.
Paved surfaces in Southeast Asia combine two opposing influences: intense sunlight, which bleaches both the surface and the markings, and the rainy season, when water washes dirt away and brings out the joints and the edges. The result tends to be contrasting and uneven. You can take that up when settling the model, with mild dirt on the landing gear and the underside of the fuselage; on such a surface it looks natural.
This is a printed base for a model. The model itself, glue and paints are not part of the delivery.
