The fourth part of the Wiking series from Star Decals focuses on the headquarters company of the 5. SS-Wiking unit in the period of the fighting in the Caucasus in 1942 and 1943. The sheet covers the three machines stated in the name, that is the Pz II Ausf F, the Pz.Bef.Wg III Ausf H and the Pz III Ausf J, and is intended for models in 1:35 size.
The headquarters companies of German armored units brought command and signals vehicles together, so different types met side by side in them. The designation Pz.Bef.Wg belonged to command tanks, which carried extended radio equipment at the cost of part of the fighting fit, and a conspicuous aerial was often their distinguishing feature. The Pz III Ausf J represented the main fighting type of the German tank battalions at the time, while the light Pz II Ausf F served mainly for reconnaissance and signals. This combination shows well how mixed the park of a single company was.
The designs are worked out as historical reference for the documentary building of a model. The tactical numbers on these vehicles are put together digit by digit, so measure the spacing in advance and mark the position in pencil; after application a digit can only be moved to a limited degree. Keep an eye on the horizontal axis against the edge of the turret, not by eye.
