Beetle in Captivity – Republic P-47 Thunderbolt, 1:72 (Exotic Decals)

A set of wet (waterslide) decals in 1:72 scale from Exotic Decals. It is devoted to one particular American P-47D razorback nicknamed Beetle, which fell into the hands of the Luftwaffe and then flew in German colors. The decals make it possible to capture several of the appearances this machine went through during its service, from the original American markings to the German ones.

The real subject

The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was a substantial American fighter and ground-attack aircraft. This particular razorback landed by mistake on an occupied airfield and the Germans put it back into service and used it for tests and for propaganda. The combination of American and German markings on one airframe makes this machine an exceptionally attractive and unusual modeling subject.

Use

• Dip the cut-out part in lukewarm water for a few seconds.
• Apply onto a smooth gloss varnish and slide it into position.
• Settle it with a decal softener so that it follows the detail of the surface.
• Once dry, overcoat with clear varnish.
