Art Scale masks for the PBJ-1J Mitchell in 1:48 scale are pre-cut stencils for the outer surfaces of the glazing and for the wheels of the twin-engined Marine Corps bomber.
Responsibility details are not available.
The stencils cover the outer side of the glazing and the wheels. The single-sided rendition is intended for modelers for whom a sharp transition on the outer frames is enough; the shapes match the division of the windows of this type, so applying them is a matter of a few minutes. The set is made by Art Scale Kit in Liberec.
The designation PBJ-1J belonged to B-25J machines handed over to the US Navy and operated by Marine Corps squadrons. They flew above all over the Pacific against Japanese shipping and coastal targets. Some of them carried radar in the nose or in a pod on the wing and racks for unguided rockets under the wings, which turned the original medium bomber into a dangerous opponent of small vessels. Attacks were made from low altitudes, so exceptionally heavy forward armament appeared on these aircraft and crews had to reckon with intense fire from the deck.
Natural metal is rewarding on these aircraft but merciless to the surface: mask the glazing only after the base has been polished, or a step will appear under the edge. Press the stencils down with a blunt toothpick and direct the paint perpendicular to the surface, not at an angle from the side. When you have finished, take the films off from the smallest pieces to the largest.
It is an aid for painting; neither plastic parts nor paints are part of the delivery.
