1:72 Armstrog Whittwort Whitley Mk.V - Camouflage Painting Masks (for Airfix Kits)

Masks for the camouflage scheme of the Whitley Mk.V, 1:72 scale

The set contains masks cut to shape, with which the camouflage demarcation is sprayed onto the model. The difference from masking by hand lies in the edge: the British Second World War scheme had a sharp, precisely defined outline that cannot be drawn with tape, because the curves are not circular and have to match symmetrically on both halves of the model. A pre-cut mask removes that work and at the same time guarantees that the left and right sides will be the same. The set is cut to the shape of one particular Whitley Mk.V kit in 1:72 scale.

Use

• The surface must be fully cured; on fresh paint the mask will pull the color off when removed.
• Transfer the mask with tweezers and press the edge down with a blunt toothpick along its whole length.
• Cover the rest of the surface with paper or film; the masks only cover the outline itself.
• Spray straight on and in thin coats; an angled spray creeps under the edge.
• Remove the masks while the paint is still fresh, pulling them back over themselves at a sharp angle.
• Work from the light color to the dark one; the other way around calls for more coats.

Who it is for

The set is for modelers building the British bomber who want camouflage with a sharp demarcation without cutting by hand. It assumes confident airbrush work, because the mask does not spray for you. On a large twin-engine aircraft it is also a job that would take several evenings by hand.

It is not a kit. The model, paints and clear coat are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
