An injection-molded plastic kit of the British guided missile destroyer HMS Coventry in 1:350 scale from FORE ART. The model captures a Type 42 (Batch I) ship and offers very fine detail — a full hull assembly, photo-etched parts, a clear part for the bridge, 3D-printed radars and a metal gun barrel. The model therefore makes it possible to build a faithful replica of the ship as she appeared at the beginning of the 1980s. Check the exact package contents and markings against the enclosed instructions.
HMS Coventry (D118) was a Type 42 guided missile destroyer of the Royal Navy, taken into service in the second half of the 1970s. She carried the Sea Dart anti-aircraft missile system, a 114 mm (4.5 inch) gun and guidance radars for protecting formations against air attack. Type 42 destroyers were built in three sub-series (Batch I to III), and the oldest Batch I ships, including Coventry, were among the shortest of the family. Coventry became famous for her deployment in the Falklands War in 1982, where, after shooting down several Argentine aircraft, she was herself sunk by an air attack. Even so, the Type 42s were the backbone of British fleet air defense for decades.
The hull can be built as a full hull and displayed on a stand, and the fine photo-etched parts (railings, radars) should be bonded with super glue so that the plastic does not go cloudy. Fit the metal gun barrel and the clear parts at the very end of the build. Lay the gray naval camouflage down with an airbrush, bring out the panel lines and the details with a dark wash and add discreet traces of service, sea salt and rust around the anchors and the outlets. Reinforce the small antennas and masts with stretched sprue so that the model looks realistic.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
