Stencils for the conspicuous finish of the Czech Mi-24 attack helicopter with the fuselage number 4011 in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Czech Air Force made its attack helicopters famous with finishes that became a fixture of air shows all over Europe. Instead of the usual inconspicuous green, individual machines received striking schemes of a kind that other armies allow themselves only rarely. Precisely such a helicopter, with the fuselage number 4011, carries a combination of sharply broken fields and a tiger motif that stretches across the fuselage all the way to the tail boom.
The set contains the boundaries of all the color areas of the scheme. The drawing is asymmetrical and runs across the rounded fuselage, across the stub wings and across the surfaces of the tail section, so measuring it out by hand would mean long hours of work with a result that would never fully agree between the right and left sides. The film also follows the small elements of the motif, which could not be created with tape at all.
The ideal way is to proceed from the lightest tone, to let the paint set between layers and to spray perpendicular to the surface. On rounded areas it helps to turn the model as you work, so that the stream of air nowhere goes at an angle under the edge of the film. Smaller parts are easier to carry on the tip of a scalpel.
Once finished, it is useful to even out the gloss of the whole airframe with a single overcoat.
