About product

Mr.Paint P.R.U. Blue, acrylic modeling paint, 17 ml

This product is a modeling paint, not a kit. It belongs to the Aqua line of the Slovak manufacturer Mr.Paint, which is a water-thinnable acrylic: unlike the celebrated lacquer line from the same maker, it is thinned with water or with that manufacturer's acrylic thinner and is gentler on the plastic and on your breathing. It comes in a 17 ml dropper bottle, is mixed to airbrush consistency and is usually sprayed straight from the bottle. The dry surface is satin (semi-matte), so decals, washes and filters can be laid on it without an intermediate step.

What P.R.U. Blue is

The abbreviation P.R.U. stands for Photographic Reconnaissance Unit, the photographic reconnaissance units of the RAF. Their Spitfires and Mosquitos flew the reconnaissance role unarmed: altitude and speed took the place of defense, and they relied on nobody catching them. That is exactly why they were given this distinctive deep blue finish, which hid the aircraft against the sky at high altitude. It is one of the most striking and most easily recognized British shades of the Second World War, and an overall blue with no camouflage pattern gives a model a very distinctive look.

Use

  • Airbrush: spray in thin layers, usually with no further thinning.
  • Brush and airbrush alike: it can be thinned with water or with the manufacturer's acrylic thinner.
  • A primer is not essential, but on a smooth light gray base the shade comes out cleaner and more even.
  • The satin surface takes decals and weathering even without a clear coat; a matte varnish at the end will slightly mute the shade.

Who the paint is for

For modelers building British photographic reconnaissance aircraft and for anyone who wants a water-thinnable acrylic with a smooth, repeatably mixed shade. Suitable for the airbrush as well as for supplementary brushwork.

The paint is supplied on its own and is not part of any kit. Use respiratory protection when spraying and ventilate well: the aerosol must not be inhaled. Keep out of the reach of children.

FAQ

It is an acrylic. Mr.Paint is known above all for its lacquer line, but this paint belongs to the separate water-thinnable Aqua line. It is thinned with water or with the manufacturer's acrylic thinner, not with a lacquer thinner.

P.R.U. is the abbreviation of the photographic reconnaissance units of the RAF. Their unarmed reconnaissance aircraft flew high and fast and wore this deep blue finish, which hid them against the sky at high altitude.

As a rule no, it is mixed to airbrush consistency. Depending on the pressure and the nozzle you can thin it further with water or with the manufacturer's acrylic thinner.

It is not. This is purely a paint in a 17 ml bottle; no model and no parts are included.
