The kit 1:144 Hafenschlepper Harbor Tug Boat Fairplay I/III/X builds a Hamburg harbor tug with a towing winch and azimuth thrusters.
Responsibility details are not available.
The kit builds a Hamburg harbor tug of the Fairplay type from more than a hundred parts. The finished model measures just under eighteen centimeters, has a two-part hull, fendering around the hull, a towing winch, a radar mast and an inflatable boat, and comes with a display stand. The markings cover three particular ships of this shipowner's family of vessels.
Tugs of the Fairplay family serve in Hamburg, Antwerp and Rotterdam and nudge container giants to the quay where a ship's own engine is not enough. A pair of engines of roughly eighteen hundred kilowatts each drives two Z-drive azimuth thrusters, thanks to which the vessel turns practically on the spot. On these ships the pull on the towline matters more than speed.
The hull is glued from halves, so give time to the joint on the keel and to sanding it down. The fendering comes out well when it is given a different degree of sheen from the painted side. A working vessel will stand pronounced weathering: rust at the stem, wear where it touches the ship it is handling and greasy marks on the deck. The railings can be replaced with a photo-etched accessory if you want to go beyond the contents of the box.
Neither paints nor glue are included, and the parts are supplied with no finish.
