A set of kabuki masks of the highest EXPERT level for the Mi-35M attack helicopter in 1:48. The cut shapes replace the slow business of taping frame by frame.

The Mi-35M is a deep rebuild of the proven Mi-24. The designers reached for shortened wings, fixed landing gear and the rotor head of the Mi-28, added a turreted sensor ball with a thermal imager and a laser rangefinder in the nose, and reworked the cockpit for flight with night vision goggles. The result was an aircraft able to work after dark, which the original version from the 1980s was not. Besides Russian units it is flown by the air forces of Brazil, India, Azerbaijan and a number of African countries.
The glazing of the Hind is the most laborious spot of the whole build for a modeler. The gunner and the pilot sit under separate canopies made up of a mixture of flat panes and curved parts, with a dense network of frames running between them. Cutting tape for that by hand means hours of work and the certainty that at least one frame will come out crooked. Pre-cut shapes bring that step down to tens of minutes.
The designation in the name states the scope of the set. Among this brand's kabuki masks, EXPERT is the largest of the levels in use and covers more than the ADVANCED set for the same aircraft.
Degrease the part before applying the mask and let it dry. Lay the mask on with dry tweezers, press it down with a toothpick all the way around the frame and only then spray in thin coats, so that paint cannot get under the edge. Take the masks off while the varnish is only touch-dry, not after it has fully cured.
A Hind is built from the back forward: the interior and the blades first, then the fuselage and the glazing right at the end. Fit the masking only at the moment when the whole model is ready for painting, or you will be peeling the paper off twice for nothing. If you are planning a three-color camouflage, expect the frames to stay covered the whole time, which can easily be several days.
