Carbon fiber has a regular woven pattern that neither a brush nor an airbrush can imitate. This sheet brings it ready made: you cut the printed area to the shape of the part and stick it where the texture should show. On car and formula models these are usually hoods, rear wings, diffusers, radiator covers and interior panels.
According to the name this is the smooth form of the pattern in an extra-fine weave and for a scale range of 1:6 to 1:24. Fineness matters with carbon fiber: a coarser weave looks more like fabric in a larger scale, while too fine a one disappears at a distance and the area just looks dark. The scale information therefore says how large the models are that the pattern is tuned to. The format and the number of sheets in the package are given in the manufacturer's description.
It is a decal. Cut the piece you need with a small overlap, soak it according to the manufacturer's instructions and slide it off the backing paper onto the part. The base should be smooth and glossy; on a matte surface the edges stand out. Squeeze the water and the air out with a soft cloth from the middle outwards and watch that the direction of the weave lines up on adjacent surfaces. On curved parts a softener helps, again according to the manufacturer's instructions.
