Carbon fabric has a characteristic regular pattern that cannot be painted convincingly with a brush or an airbrush. This sheet brings it ready made: a printed surface with an imitation of carbon that you cut to match the part exactly and stick where the structure is meant to be visible. On automobile and Formula models those tend to be hoods, diffusers, wings, covers and interior panels.
The product name gives the fine rendering of the structure and the range of scales 1:6 to 1:24. The fineness of the pattern is the key with carbon: too coarse a structure looks like cloth in a larger scale, too fine a one is lost from a distance and the surface just looks dark. The range in the name therefore says how large the models are that the pattern is tuned for. How many sheets the package contains and what format they have is stated in the description from the manufacturer.
It is a decal. Cut the piece you need out with a small overlap, soak it according to the instructions from the manufacturer, slide it off the backing paper onto the surface and settle it into place. The surface beneath should be smooth and glossy; on a matte and rough surface the edges of a decal will show. Press the air and the water out from under the film with a soft cloth from the center outwards, and watch that the pattern follows on in the direction of the weave.
Once dry, the surface is usually covered over with a clear coat, which levels the edges and evens out the sheen.
The sheet is intended for applying to finished parts; paints, varnish and glue are not included unless stated otherwise.
