This is not an aircraft kit but a detailed 3D-printed resin engine set for the Tamiya kit of the American Grumman F4F-4 Wildcat carrier fighter in 1:48 scale. The set captures the Pratt & Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp radial engine with fine detail on the cylinders and the auxiliary units. It is made by the Hungarian firm SBS Model.
An exposed engine is one of the most effective ways of bringing a model to life. 3D printing makes it possible to capture the cylinder fins, the wiring and the small fittings with a crispness that injection-molded plastic cannot reach. The modeler can display the engine with the cowling opened up and create a scene that holds the eye.
Separate the parts from the print supports, wash them and clean them up (protect your airways). They are glued with cyanoacrylate. Spray the engine in metal and dark shades, set the wiring apart and bring out the depth with a wash; a primer helps before painting.
This is an accessory, not a complete model. The base Tamiya kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
