Air intake covers for an F-4 Phantom II model in 1:48 scale, intended for the Zoukei-Mura kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The McDonnell F-4 Phantom II is a two-seat twin-engined combat aircraft with strikingly large air intakes on the sides of the fuselage. It is into these that covers are slid on the ground to keep dirt and small objects from being drawn in. On the ramp a Phantom is therefore almost always to be seen with its intakes blanked off, usually in a striking color so that nobody overlooks them before start-up.
Air intake covers for a model in 1:48 scale, shaped for the Zoukei-Mura kit. On a model that stands on the ground with a crew beside it or ground equipment around it, blanked intake mouths bring instant credibility. At the same time they solve a practical problem: a covered mouth spares the modeler from dealing with the depth and the inside of the duct, which in a kit tends to be shortened.
The parts are not polystyrene and ordinary cement for plastic has no effect on them; use super glue. Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little clear of the part and sand off the rest, then adjust the seating edge so that the cover fits the mouth with no gap. Wash and degrease the parts before painting and lay down a primer. Paint the cover separately and fit it only to the finished model; the striking color then does not dirty the surrounding surfaces.
For builders of a Phantom in a ground scene or in a diorama where the aircraft stands secured, and for anyone who wants the small details of ground handling on a model too. The kit itself, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
