Squid fishing boats are among the characteristic vessels of Japanese coastal fishing. They fish at night and attract the catch with rows of extremely powerful lamps hung above the deck along both sides; the light draws plankton, and the squid follow it. The vessels are therefore fitted with powerful generators and with conspicuous beams carrying the lights, which give them a shape not to be confused with any other type of boat. The work takes place on an open deck with winches and fishing lines, while the crew quarters are cramped and concentrated in the superstructure.
Fishing boats are rewarding precisely because of wear: the working deck, the sides at the waterline and the area around the winches will take strong traces of service. Paint the hull in several coats, lay the waterline out with masking tape and bring the lower part to life with deposits and rust. Finish the small deck equipment separately and glue it on only once painted. The light beams are demanding in shape, so glue them in sections and watch the symmetry of the two sides, otherwise the difference shows immediately when you look at the model from ahead.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
