A set of miniature imitation bolts with a hex head in the 0.5 to 1.2 mm size range. It is an accessory with which bolted joints on a model are replaced or completed.
A hex head has crisp edges and faces that take the light differently from every side. It is by that very thing that the eye reads scale on a model. On a part from a kit the head tends to be only shallowly suggested and after the paint is sprayed hardly a noticeable domed circle is left of it. A fitted part, by contrast, stands above the surface, casts a shadow of its own and seen from the side has a real height. The smallest dimensions from this range belong on small brackets, covers and caps, the largest on feet and flanges, where the joint is exposed.
Tip the parts out onto a light surface and take them with fine-tipped tweezers, or on the moistened tip of a toothpick. The position is fixed most reliably by a shallow recess drilled in advance. They are glued with a minute amount of cyanoacrylate glue on the tip of a wire; wipe the surplus off at once. If you want the heads turned uniformly, align them with the tip of a scalpel while the glue is still setting. Painting is easier to manage before gluing; once installed, all that is left is careful stippling and bringing out the shadow in the gap under the head.
The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. The manufacturer gives the number of pieces and the split of sizes in the package.
