A supplementary set of small fasteners for building plastic models. It contains hex head bolts in the version the supplier designates as semi light, and large washers to go with them. The size given is 1.2 mm.
A molded imitation of a bolt is usually the first thing on a model to give the scale away. The head is rounded, its edges are blurred and when the surrounding surface is sanded it disappears altogether. A separate part with a crisp hex and a washer under it looks different, because it has a depth of its own and casts a shadow. The set is aimed at motorcycle models, but it comes into its own anywhere a bolt is seen close up, that is on frames, engines, hinges or tanks.
Carry the parts with fine-jawed tweezers; they are hard to find on a carpet. At the place where they are to sit, first drill the hole with a micro bit, slide the part in dry and only then secure it with a drop of cyanoacrylate glue applied with the tip of a pin. Wash and degrease the surface before gluing and before painting. Apply the paint in thin coats; a thick coat rounds off the edges of the hex and the effect is gone.
