A lowered hex head nine tenths of a millimeter across, complemented by a washer of wider diameter. The size at which it first shows in full how much of the fine definition a layer of varnish and paint can swallow.
Responsibility details are not available.
A finish has a thickness that a modeler usually does not bother with, but it too gets converted. A coat applied with an airbrush runs in hundredths of a millimeter, and when five of them lie on a part, they add up to a tenth. Reduced twelve times that is more than a millimeter of real thickness, that is a build-up nobody would overlook on a live machine.
With a head nine tenths of a millimeter wide the lowered profile is noticeably impoverished by such a build-up. The edges lose their crispness, the recess for the wrench is rounded off and all that is left of a bold joint is a ring. It is not a fault of the part, it is a matter of the order of work. Anyone who installs the head on a finished, already sprayed surface gets round the whole problem and spares themselves the trouble of tracing the edges.
If you do spray the part together with the piece, it helps to thin the paint more than usual and to work in more light passes. Leave the varnish right to the end and rather only suggest it. The result is a head on which it can still be told, even after completion, how many faces it has and how deep it sits in the washer, and that is the whole point of working in a large scale.
The same reasoning applies to fillers and primer. Every coat takes something away from the definition, and with a lowered profile there is little to take. Apply the primer in a thin veil only for adhesion, not for coverage, and deal with any unevenness beforehand by sanding, not by another layer.
