A collector's model of the electric Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 saloon with all-wheel drive, the 2024 model year, in a red metallic shade. 1:64 scale; the piece is supplied complete.
Responsibility details are not available.
The electric flagship from Untertürkheim was built on a platform of its own rather than converted from a combustion car, and that can be seen on it at first glance. A teardrop silhouette with no distinct transition between the hood and the windshield gave it a drag coefficient of around 0.2, a figure no other production car has beaten. The 580 version with all-wheel drive uses two electric motors and their combined output runs to over five hundred horsepower.
It is precisely with a body as flowing as this that 1:64 is at its most demanding. A miniature roughly eight centimeters long has nowhere to hide a mistake: all it takes is for the roof arch to run slightly elsewhere and the car stops looking like itself. What can be followed on the model is the closed front end with no traditional grille, the full-width rear light and the flush door handles, that is, the elements that set the subject apart from the classic saloons of the marque.
The shade given in the designation is not usual on cars of this class, because representative saloons are sold mainly in dark and silver colors. On the small area of a model a metallic paint is a test of the evenness of the spray, because every uneven transition shows at once on the rounded flanks.
The piece is assembled and painted and no further work is expected of the owner. Electric saloons are only now settling into collections, so this type makes a prominent and unmistakable break in a shelf full of sports cars.
