The tie between the British carmaker and the film series about the secret agent has lasted since the 1960s and has become one of the most enduring links between film and the car industry at all. Aston Martin gained an image through it that no advertising campaign can buy, and the DBS type fits that line in both shape and character: a long hood, a narrow cockpit set back and the proportions of a grand tourer meant for long journeys.
Miniatures released under a film license make up a collecting group of their own. They are collected neither by the marque of the car nor by the scale, but by belonging to the series, and what holds their standing is the completeness of the range. Anyone putting such a set together looks after the undamaged packaging of the individual pieces more than with ordinary models, because it is precisely the edition marking that sets a piece apart from an otherwise identical miniature without the license.
A dark gray with a metallic effect is a shade that works differently at a small scale than a solid color: depending on the angle of the light it shifts from almost black to a light silver and brings out the edges. The model is cast in metal, finished and shod, so it goes straight into a display case after unpacking. Lighting from the side is recommended, as it shows the metallic effect to the full.
Dust shows sooner on a dark surface than on a light one. An occasional dusting with a dry soft brush is enough; polishes and moist wipes have no place on miniatures, because they attack the thin layer of printed lettering.
