The set brings replacement barrels for British 12-pounder guns of 3 inch caliber, that is 76.2 mm, for ship models in 1:700 scale. The designation 12-pounder comes from the older British practice of naming a gun after the weight of its shell; twelve pounds corresponds to roughly 5.4 kilograms. The caliber in inches and in millimeters refers to the same weapon, only written a different way.
In 1:700 the barrel of a light gun is only a few millimeters long, and a plastic part at that size tends to be thickened just to survive being released from the mold. A separate barrel, by contrast, is thin along its whole length and holds a straight axis, so the gun on the deck looks like a weapon and not like a peg. At a small scale it is one of the few alterations that show even in a photograph of the finished model.
Gun barrels are supplied according to the manufacturer's packaging. The ship model, the mountings, paints and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
