Chibi-Maru Fleet Hiei is a stylized plastic kit of the Japanese fast battleship Hiei in a non-scale, deliberately foreshortened form from the Japanese brand Fujimi.

Chibi-Maru Fleet is a range from the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi in which large warships turn into stylized models a couple of centimeters long. The foreshortened hull carries a fully shaped superstructure, funnels and gun turrets, so the subject stays recognizable at first glance. The model has no scale and therefore cannot be lined up with scale ships. The package contains injection-molded plastic parts; the particular contents and the number of parts are stated on the box and in the instructions.
Hiei was a Japanese Kongo class fast battleship. The ships of this class were originally built as battlecruisers around the time of the First World War, and in the 1930s they went through an extensive conversion: they received new boilers and turbines, stronger armor protection and the characteristic tall superstructure forward. Thanks to their high speed they then served mainly as escorts for fast formations. Hiei was lost in November 1942 in the fighting around Guadalcanal. The stylized model takes exactly what is typical of the Kongo class: the tall stepped superstructure and the arrangement of the gun turrets.
The tall superstructure is the most prominent element of this kind of subject, so give attention to setting it vertically; once the glue has dried it can no longer be moved. Sand the parting seam of the hull before painting, otherwise it will stand out on the smooth surface. The recommended painting procedure: a gray base, a different shade on the deck, a fine wash into the recesses and a dry brush on the edges. Apply the paint in thin coats so that the engraved detail does not fill in. Separate the gun barrels and masts from the sprue with a sharp tool only just before gluing.
The model is supplied unassembled. Paints, glue and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
