About product

Metallic Paint SHARKFIN BLUE from Green Stuff World

SHARKFIN BLUE is a metallic shade in a blue tone from the metallic line of Green Stuff World. It is not a classic opaque paint that lays a continuous matte area onto a surface. Besides the color component it carries a fine reflective filler, and that directs the light once dry. The result therefore changes according to the angle of view and according to the lighting, and it makes sense to judge a finished area only when dry, ideally in two different lights.

What surface a metallic paint is applied to

The metallic impression stands and falls with the surface underneath. On a flat and uniform area a continuous sheen arises, on a grainy or broken-up surface the reflection shatters and the metal looks more matte. A darker surface gives the shade depth and accentuates the contrast, a light surface brightens it. The reflective filler settles to the bottom of the bottle, so stir the paint repeatedly before use and in the course of the work. Rather apply two thin coats than one heavy one; a heavy coat breaks the evenness of the sheen.

Use and why a wash is done differently

  • Place the metallic shade among the last steps of painting; it is harder to spray over and to mask than a matte paint.
  • A matte surface has a fine texture into which a wash flows and holds in the recesses; a metallic area is smoother and more closed, so a wash runs off it rather and settles unevenly.
  • Lead the weathering in a targeted way, therefore: less liquid, only into the engraved lines and the shadows, take the excess off at once.
  • Toning the whole metal area over its full extent suppresses the sheen; if you want to keep it, work spot by spot.
  • Suitable for the colored metal elements of armor, for accessories of figures and for accents on a diorama.

Who the color is for

For modelers and painters of figures who want a colored metal instead of an ordinary silver, and for anyone looking for a more pronounced difference between matte areas and glossy details.

Keep out of the reach of children, ventilate while working and protect your eyes and skin.

FAQ

Yes. An opaque shade forms a continuous area, a metallic paint a layer of reflective particles. The result therefore changes with the lighting and with the angle of view.

To a flat and uniform one. A grainy surface breaks the reflection and the metal goes matte. A dark surface adds depth, a light one brightens the shade.

Not in the same way. A smooth metallic area does not hold a wash the way a matte one does, so lead it spot by spot into the engraved lines and take the excess off at once.

The reflective filler settles to the bottom. Without stirring it leaves the bottle unevenly and the sheen is not uniform.
