A veneer deck for the battleship Scharnhorst in 1:700 scale from Artwox Model will replace the plastic deck of the kit with self-adhesive wooden veneer with the laying of the planks printed on it. Cut for the Tamiya 77518 kit.

This item is an accessory to a plastic kit, not a model of the ship. A thin wooden veneer with the printed laying of the deck planks and with a self-adhesive back is cut to the shapes of the decks of the Tamiya 77518 kit. On a finished model the wood is noticeable at first glance: it has grain of its own and reflects light differently from paint.
The Scharnhorst was the lead unit of the class of the same name of German ships, brought into service at the beginning of 1939. The main armament consisted of nine 283 mm guns in three triple turrets, that is a smaller caliber than the contemporary battleships of other navies carried; high speed and solid armor compensated for it. A characteristic element was the so-called Atlantic bow, which the ship received shortly after completion. She was sunk in December 1943 off the North Cape.
A veneer deck tells most on a model that will end up in a display case or in front of a lens. A photograph reveals every bubble and every lifted edge, so once it is glued on go over the area in sharp side light and press any place that has not bedded down with a smooth wooden stick. Before gluing, sand the engraving of the planks on the plastic and degrease with alcohol; pull the film off in sections and lay from the longitudinal axis toward the sides. If you want to age the wood slightly, reach for pigments applied dry with a fine brush: on veneer they work better and more safely than wet techniques.
